Historical Background

Sri Sidh Baba Balak Nath Sri Sidh Baba Balak Nath devoted his three births in the service of Lord Shiv Shankar. In the First Birth Baba Ji was born in a Brahmin family. His name was Jyoti. He left for heavenly abode in his 55 year. In the 2nd Birth Baba Ji was born in a Marmundo family. His name was Badri. Baba ji had been devoted to Lord Shiva since his childhood. At the age of 45 yrs. baba ji was compelled for marriage but Baba ji was of the opinion from the first birth that to meet Lord Shiva, Brahmcharya is the only way. At the age of 51 years he left home. At the age of 71 year Maharishi Narad was ordered by Lord Shiva to guide Balak to reach him. Maharishi Narad guided babaji to follow mata Parvati to enable him to meet Lord Shiva. Lord shiva told babaji to remain in Shivpuri as he can give mukti. Babaji decided not to have mukti but to have third birth so that he could achieve which he could not achieve in the 2nd Birth. Lord Shiva agreed for 3rd birth but told that Babaji’s age will remain the same at which came to Shivpuri. Lord Shiva also directed Maharishi Narad to give him guidance in the third birth and Narad Maharishi guided baba ji in the third birth for the jap of Sh. Guru Datatraiya. In the Third Birth Babaji born in the family of Pandit Narain and Luxmi in Junagard (Gujarat) and was named as Balak. Babaji left home at the age of 3 years as he was named for mischief of the children. At that time Maharishi Narad guided babaji to adopt mantra of Jai Guru Datatraiya. At the age of 4 years & 8 months he was adopted by Guru Datatraiya as his disciple by sprinkling water on Babaji. He took babaji to his dera and gave a place on his left side. There Guru Datatraiya preached him and directed him to go for char dham yatra. Babaji stayed at Banwala on the banks of Tangri river near Ambala City during his char dham yatra. A temple has been built there. There after he reached Shahtalai (H.P.) and became son of Mata Ratno and reared her cows. He started dhoona near Bargad tree and sat in Samadhi at Garuna Jhari. After 2 years & 5 month of tapasaya in Shahtalai the fame of Babaji started spreading to far off places. On hearing the fame of Babaji Guru Gorakh Nath came to Shahtalai and wanted to make babaji his disciple. But Babaji refused to become the disciple of Guru Gorakh Nath. On his refusal Guru Gorakh Nath put various hurdles in Babaji’s way, but babaji crossed every hurdle easily. At this Guru Gorakh Nath told his disiples to Gherao Balak and catch him but Babaji flew from there and entered the Gufa. This was the time when Guru Datatraiya given his acceptance for the completion of Char dham yatra and Babaji was allowed to meet Parbraham. Babaji is present in Deotsidh Gufa and he is serving the humanity. Babaji's Gufa is situated in village Chakmoh, Teh. Barsar H.P. and people from all over the country and overseas come for darshan and get solace for their difficulties.
